(20-30 Minutes)
I evaluate prospective students for interest level, attention span, and physical characteristics to make sure that the materials I use will be best for them. If students begin prior to first grade, I start with 20 minutes, then adjust to 30 minutes when they are ready.
(30-45 Minutes)
Some students in grades 5-6 will be ready to extend lessons to 45 minutes. I inform parents as progress warrants consideration of longer lessons.
(45-60 Minutes)
If students in these grades are 1st-year beginners, I start with 30-minute lessons. If students transfer from another teacher, I try to use materials they already have and adjust the time based on their level of achievement.
Because sharing music is one of the fundamental reasons to take any type of music lessons, all students are encouraged to participate in our recital at the end of each semester. We celebrate musical accomplishments by playing for others and by actively listening to others.
While in-person lessons are ideal, Zoom lessons may be arranged if circumstances require remote contact. This does not apply to very young beginners. When first developing habits that lead to skills, they must have in-person demonstration and guidance.
I invite each prospective student and at least one parent or primary caregiver to visit my studio for a complimentary lesson that will include an introduction to the piano. It also gives us a chance to get acquainted and for me to determine which materials I will use for each student.
I played in faculty recorder ensembles, conducted college Early Music groups, and taught recorder in schools for many years.
Secondary students sometimes need extra help with music theory either for piano or for their participation in performance groups at school. Class lessons can be arranged when there is a need.
I have worked with choirs throughout my career and enjoy helping singers learn and rehearse pieces for UIL or other performances.
Payment for lessons may be made weekly or monthly. Missed lessons will be rescheduled if
possible. If cancellation is made within 24 hours of a scheduled lesson, the fee for the missed
lesson will be waived. Situations in which it is impossible to give a 24-hour notice will be
assessed individually. I understand that illness or unforeseen emergencies can occur.
